" Westgold's Bramwell is hopeful of bringing costs further under WGX’s control with a new LNG and solar plant to be commissioned next week.

“Twelve months ago, we were consuming 8.5 million litres of diesel a month. And that was across our mobile fleet, and all our power stations,” Bramwell said.

“Next week we’re about to commission our first hybrid power station, which is including renewable, so that’s gas-fired gensets supported by PV and batteries.

“So what does that do for our diesel consumption as a group? We’re down now to around 5 million litres a month.

“In the next 12 months our total diesel consumption is somewhere between 2-2.5 million litres a month.

“So that’s a massive change from 8.5 million litres a month at the beginning of FY22 and the impact on the business is significant.”

This is another example of the soundness of RED's strategy from the inception of the FFS for KOTH (which serendipitously just preceded COVID, and latterly the energy cost inflation post Feb'22) - the emphasis on designing a big modern plant (with built in expansion potential) and a long life sustainable energy supply in the form of a "hybrid power station" with (relatively cheap) gas on long term contract, with some solar (to please the ESG purists).
Both the gas fired part of the plant (responsible for 90% of [power output) and the solar can be expanded as needs be. As for "battery backup" .... please be rational ... this is expensive and limited in duration ... maybe enough to cover a short breakdown of the gas fired plant (?) or a Green sabotage of the gas pipeline (?).
