I have to agree that media coverage is often a negative. A couple of weeks ago someone mentioned a day trader's article in the paper saying he had a $1.75 target and stop at $1.24(?). When I saw that I wasn't surprised at all seeing his stop hit...
The quick spikes up are exciting but are *always* followed by a shakeout, and the more traders holding, the more effective the shakeout. If you just want to trade the ups and downs, there are plenty of more liquid stocks with regular swings.
