That's a tricky one to be honest as has already been noted there are quite a few different methods that can be used. It depends on alot of variables that I don't have any info on and I'm definitely not an expert in this sort of thing, my experience is in completions and liners. If its indeed an unwanted zone communicating with the producing zones then they would need to try and get a barrier between them, with the completion in place that would be pretty much impossible, they may have to pull the completion, punch holes in the casing and squeeze cement but that can be difficult as you have absolutely no idea where the cement is going. There could also be other ways that I don't know of in which you could do it with the completion in place.
Cement plays a big roll in well integrity so they will need to do something or it might cause them serious issues in the future with gas migrating where it shouldn't.
