Could the ultra capacitors be useful to overcome the relatively slow startup of flow batteries? If true, the ultra capacitors are really just supporting the LDES.
it is interesting to ponder in what circumstances a rapid startup would be necessary? In normal usage, I would have thought that demand would be predictable enough that flow batteries could be brought on line so as to be ready when needed. So a sudden startup would have to be something like a failed transmission link?
