The only things that matters is $$'s .. so how much?
If you can't get a return versus the cost of buying the power from the grid in the first place .. no point .. people will buy the power when the sun goes down for less than the cost of buying and installing. If on the other hand there was a pay-off over say 3 years, you would sign up for a unit or two.
The only caveat to that .. if blackouts do in fact become a thing .. or if governments actively (see grants) move to a smart grid .. that will change the metrics.
Given no mention, I hazard it still makes sense to simply rely on the grid.
