My beef with management is there is a manufacturing concept called 'Design for Manufacture' where you try to minimise your BOM and simplify the design to reduce manufacturing complexity AND thereby improve product reliability (based on feedback from the field). They have had YEARS to finalise this all and we still have what sounds like a high rate of return...

This is yet another reason why you keep quiet on R&D, it gives the engineers time to do it right without someone in sales or marketing nailing you to a deadline because they leaked a yet to be finished feature that a sale depends upon.
