E25's mining schedule involves around 2M bcm per year of waste and ore (page 16 Jan 2024 scoping expansion study). From the graph above that its about 5-6Mt of ore and up to a few Mt of waste that needs moving each year. A busy year would require moving perhaps 8Mt which with 40t tippers is 200,000 trips or up to 550 per day. Presumably E25 have calculated that its going to be more efficient to use smaller vehicles that don't require drivers than finding and maintaining a driver roster for larger haul trucks.
This also is fairly significant for E25 because they had been going down the lowest capex solution, sometimes with ugly operational outcomes. It now looks like they have a strong focus on getting operational costs down, even if it involves higher capex. So long as they get the opex / capex balance right and don't have low capex payback projects that will be good for shareholders.
