the reason California lead the way in EV sales is due to the California Air Resources Board requirement for car manufacturers to sell a certain percentage of emission free vehicles to be then able to sell their conventional vehicles without financial penalty.
Chev are prepared to sell 10,082 of their EV Volt and Bolt models at a $9000 loss total loss of $91 million so they can sell 210,000 conventional vehicles at a gross profit of $840 nmillion.
The American government have agreed to subsidise the new Tesla 3 model by $9000 reducing to drive away price from $35000 to $26000. The Canadian govt is introducing the same subsidy.
Meanwhile with only a few EVs operating here in Australia our government are already researching ways to record and tax EV owners by distance travelled despite zero emissions. It makes you wonder doesn't it.
