To be fair though what more can he really do? He's kept the boxes being ticked, albeit slowly, but I disagree re the macro, it hasn't been supportive at all. By this I mean, yes everyone (govt, downstream, etc) is talking the talk about graphite support, but bottom line is commercials don't stack up right now against china graphite prices. China's sudden oversupply of graphite and synthetic have bottomed out pricing for the past year and a half and basically delayed every single new graphite mine. for 2-3 years, ours included. Look at Syrah,, they are up and running and have been in a world of hurt.
His options are
- accelerate construction during a period where sentiment and commercials are against him/us, making finance, offtakes, etc more disadvantageous, OR
- keep the path to development warm, figure out ways to optimize construction and opex costs, minimize cash burn, cross t's and dot i's on permits, electricity, worker housings, land rights, etc, so that when pricing starts to rebound we are able to push the buttons quickly on finance, offtakes and build from a position of strength.
i may be looking for confirmation bias here cos I'm so invested but I don't see how he could play this better given the current circumstances. What are we missing, where did we not take the most optimal path?
