The consolidation will do nothing other than put further downward pressure on the market cap. We have already seen the MC decline by approx 25% on the announcement of the CR and consolidation proposal
IF Rio are interested they wont care if there are 17 Billion shares on issue as a consolidation doesn't reduce the number of Shareholders they need to convince.
