Way I see it is there will be no JV funding without water.
Only 2 months are left now until the findings of the water study are due.
If they stick to their own timeline, the future of MGT will be known Christmas.
The 10gl water per year required for the 5mtpa concerntrate production is only probably half of what is actually required in total when you take into account the big volumes needed for the day to day running of the actual mining activities, Concerntrate haulage.
Earthworks for construction of the plant site, mining haul roads, etcetera all use large volumes of water 24hrs a day.
Roadtrains carting concerntrate will require full-time water carts on haul roads day & night.
For the reasons above, I believe the Murray Basin Wastewater (SPSMB) option will not be the go-to option, which is by far the cheapest of the 2 options. It simply will not be able to sustain the required volumes for 30 plus years of mine life.
Seawater option being the most expensive option for obvious reasons eg distance from mine being the first thing.
If the study finds seawater will NOT be suitable for concerntrate production (I believe highly likely) then additional costs of having to add a desalination plant plus the running and upkeep cost of that plant will be added.
I understand that high-grade Magnatite Fe concerntrate fetches a premium above the normal Pilbara Hematite blends of around 62 - 65%Fe, but Im not convinced theres enough premium to outlay and sustain the cost of this seawater option.
Going to the Casino is what I would do instead of accumulating atleast you'd have a chance to get your money back!
I wonder why in 15 years it's only now these 2 water options are being considered?
Is it because the assumed estimated costs were obvious without wasting money doing a study?
Or is it because the Decarbonising reduce emissions movement has provided an opportunity?
I've said this before and totally agree with you. I believe this will be the last opportunity for MGT, Do or Die so to speak.
Best of luck holders.![]()
