I would also like to counternote on your point and slightly disagree with your comment that better alternatives will come in time.
The benefits that NdFeb has in motors and Lithium in certain battery applications (EVs specifically) is their element characteristics which are fixed and cannot be changed - lithium being the lightest solid/metal.
As technology improves, so to will the NdFeb motors and Lithium batteries.
Alternative products will come for products that are okay to be cheaper, or less reliable, but lithium and NdFeb products will continue to be the strongest overall performance wise.
