"Our position is South West Creek is reserved for the junior miners. That's the government's policy position. But obviously I think we have to work to provide some clarity for the mining sector about that issue. So we're going to engage in some conversations to get some clarity and some direction for the industry about it," Mr McGowan said when questioned about whether "the big boys" might be able to use the Atlas berth at Utah Point and two proposed new berths at South West Creek.
"The market resolves a lot of these issues themselves. But the government, the minister, the port authority and the department will make sure there's a conversation and some clarity provided to the industry in coming months," he said.
