Saying "careful, there's a car coming" to somebody who appears...

Saying "careful, there's a car coming" to somebody who appears to be contemplating crossing the street doesn't fit within the meaning of "schadenfreude". On the street it could be classed as "unsolicited involvement", but the entire purpose of HotCopper is to solicit peoples' opinions. As I said before, the opinions of somebody who has been watching an industry and a stock for some time, but have reasons for deciding not to buy, can contribute something of value by explaining their reasons. Even if it invites the occasional hostile response from those who might be feeling a little defensive about their own decisions.

I find the ignore button a valuable tool. People have many reasons for using HotCopper; socialising their emotional states, indulging in friendly banter, sharing their analyses, explaining their reasoning, making bizarre or unfounded allegations. Some of those activities interfere with the way I want to use HotCopper. Without the ignore button I either have to suffer in silence, or I have to upbraid other posters. With the ignore button we can all use the forum in ways that suit us without interfering with each other. HotCopper doesn't tell posters when they've been ignored, so it's not insulting. It doesn't really reflect on your manliness, just your maturity in being able to allow other people to be what they are.
