I understand how this technology could prove useful for monitoring disease progression, but how do they intend to use it as a Covid-19 screen?

It’s not detecting the actual causative agent of disease, only the changes in respiratory airflow. Similar viruses like the common cold and influenza can produce similar upper respiratory tract symptoms. Different strains of Covid produce different symptoms and there’s new strains emerging continually. It’s even possible for Covid-19 to be contagious before the onset of a cough, especially if contracted through food or the eyes. I can’t see this working.
