"As a rule of thumb, each nuclear reactor consumes approximately 0.5Mlb U3O8 per annum (which is converted to UF6 as reactor fuel) with the initial start-up phase requiring around 2-3 times this amount. Nuclear Reactor utilities generally enter into long term contracts for material well in advance to ensure there is sufficient supply for the reactors. Utilities have a stockpile of fuel rods with an inventory of anywhere from 18-36 months to have sufficient fuel for the reactors. As such utilities would currently be looking to secure material for the 2017/18 period."
