Hopefully the action to replace him was made after long consideration, rather than in sudden response to some major screw-up he may have made. The statement was terse/perfunctory, which makes me think it was sudden. Usually when someone "leaves" a company on his own accord, there's usually a bit of praise for his dedication and past work. OR "Is going on to pursue other interests" with a note of where he's taken a new position, if it were his idea. Even the standard "for personal reasons" was left out in this case.
