Effectively FFX, under his and Alistair Cowden’s management, took ~$250m of Australian investors’ money to refurbish a goldmine they bought in Mali only to see it’s value written down to zero a few months after they both had resigned (with Mike going overnight with a $450K handshake). A complete picture of what has happened there has yet to emerge, FFX has not traded since. My understanding is that there are numerous inquiries under way including by aggrieved shareholders. It is like a neverending soap opera but with very serious consequences for a lot of retail investors who have had their wealth absolutely scorched.
