According to the 2022 Annual Report:

• Mr Gillard may terminate the employment contract at any time by giving six months’ notice in writing.
• GDI may terminate the employment contract for any reason by giving 12 months’ notice, or alternatively, payment in lieu of notice.
• In the event of wilful negligence or serious misconduct, GDI may terminate Mr Gillard’s employment contract immediately by notice in writing and without payment.

Mr Gillard's resignation is not consistent with any of the above, i.e., if he resigned, he should have given six months' notice. Mr Gillard's Linkedin profile states that he is now self-employed - so, not retired. There is definitely a fair bit more to this story than has been made public.
