You make some valid observations. I don't know, but would an applicant for one of these loans qualify for a credit card? If not the credit risk differential would result in a pricing difference. Credit cards I expect as a pool (they don't price differentiate on credit quality, although perhaps they should) have a lower loan loss than these sorts of loan. Whether the difference is more than the risk difference is a separate question.
