Why didn't I do it?
Thing is, u need to pick and choose your battles, i'm just providing what I believe to be sound advice as to how to go about selling drones in the selfie market based on again, thorough research and prior knowledge of online sales and marketing.
Brassmad, just to be clear again, it was myself that showed the Airselfie on HC first, I then approached them to conduct some research, as I do and you and IOT don't, then one thing led to another, but it was always informal chat, so don't get too excited my furry friend.
I stated at the time on HC the Airselfie was 100x better than Roam-e and 10x better than Rova, to which IOT maybe have listened? What do you think Brassmad? They (IOT) taking my free advice? So they should, IMO, suddenly they have a deal with Airselfie?
So if they were willing to take that advice, then how to sell it is again free advice.
If I had to sell the Airselfie, I would attack the demographic via mass viral remarketing via Instagram and facebook, targeting the 16-35 year olds and cut a deal with the phone manufacturers, phone resellers, tech online retailers and drone sellers, that's it.
What I wouldn't be doing is promoting it as a Mothers Day gift, or putting it exclusively on the one place that not only degrades your product, but pigeon toes it, Amazon. I mean really? That was their big marketing plan? So was Roam-e destined for Amazon, did they really need to pay free shares out to numerous exclusive partners and distributoprs just to list it on Amazon and Ebay?
Brassmad, these guys (IOT) spent 6 months looking in the US for a distributor for the Roam-e, if you were going to list on the ASX, and you had a Roam-e as your prized product, wouldn't you already have a head distributor earmarked to take that position, or indeed have already carved out the marketing approach prior?
Did they do any market research prior? I'll say not an ounce.
Wouldn't you prior to spending $15m on one selfie drone, make sure you understand the market, and that would include working out the best marketing plan for the product?
You don't make a product, then go, alright, now let's find a distributor to sell it, now let's hope it can sell, now let's give it to an online store exclusively, now let's hire a celebrity, now lets try sign up retailers, it all over the place.
As I said in previous post, your market is facebook and Instagram, spend $10k month if need be on viral marketing and you will get sales, along with online tech retailers, I know of 5 major tech drone seller retailers that have never heard of the Rova, why is that Brassmad, how can the people who should be selling your product for you, not know of your product? They don't even need to stock it (literally) just a few specs and a couple of pics along with a detailed video BTW...(where is the video)? and that is your marketing done.
What did they spend $800k on marketing last quarter, where exactly?
Businesses sometimes try to complicate the uncomplicated, causing grief for all around them, overspend on nonsense, keep it simple.
Even say a $5m spend they could have given 25,000 Rovas away free to the most influential people in this segment to drive sales, and still had $10m in change?
Even that would have been a better way to lose money IMO.
The problem is the IOT people with old sales mentality on board that don't understand IT marketing one iota. Take Sean for example, head of sales on $400k+ p.a, buys himself some Indian and Pakistani facebook friends, wouldn't know Instagram from facebook, does his own reviews on his own product, how can u expect a successful outcome with such dinosaurs that have no idea running it?
Then they overpay some marketing group who lied in their own article, probably have little idea either about much to do with sales and marketing, and the distributor world class has 18 months company history and is shown via research to be a bottom feeder.
Same guy that tried to jam the hoverboard into IOT for what was it, $20m for 10% or some ridiculous figure, he must have thought all his Christmases had come at once, yet they trust this kind of promoter to then be head distributor of their only product?
They say, you deserve what you get.
