They did, that's the point of the query. It's not actually a speeding ticket for the last few days, but specifically about the trades before the announcement came out.

The response is essentially that the deal wasn't signed and, more importantly to me, the process hadn't been quality assessed (and technically still hasn't fully been assessed by the sounds of things) until the weekend.

That means whoever started buying didn't know for sure that it was going to work out, so if they were buying because of it, they were still taking a serious risk.

Or it was an actual coincidence. Doesn't seem likely to me, but still a possibility.
