Interesting questions you raise. Some would be part of any due diligence one would do when starting a business. Here are a few research items that may help you with your estimates.

Total number of smartphone users in Indonesia in 2018 is about 80 million users (growing faster than forecast below). They're the only ones that can download apps. That's roughly about 45.5% of the actual total number of mobile phone users (177.9 million). The other 54.5% mobile users are obviously not using smartphones. 68% of mobile phones in Indonesia are dual-SIM allowing users to switch networks depending on promotional offers of the day.



Indosat Ooredoo does not provide a smartphone versus non-smartphone breakdown of their customers. Nor do they provide and actual number of physical customers, they just provide the number of SIMs sold. The numbers they provide in their Annual Report are 1.2 million postpaid (on a plan) and 109.0 million prepaid.


Based on a study carried out in 2Q2015 on actual smartphones usage (versus apps download, as you can download apps and not use them), 43.71% of usage was for games (Arcade and others like Clash of Clans, Minecraft, etc.), 12.02% was for social media (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc.), and 8.96% was for tools (from calculators, Anti-Virus, Speed Boosters, emoji keyboards, to TV Remote Control (incredibly the 9th most used tool)). Music and Video usage in total was 5.59%. Video includes YouTube, Vimeo, and others including local news, Netflix and various streaming services. There are all sorts of breakdowns of these figures, by usage, age groups, and where they are used most (attached one as an example) but too many to include here. These figures have not changed much since.
