I agree it most definitely suits their graphite. But 1 rough, 3 clean flotations, approx 6 months of testing and development, and a stellar result sounds innovative to me.
As for why haven't KNL and SYR done it already... I guess they were operating in a different space when they moved from JORC, to pre-feasibility, to trying to secure sales ... the graphite price was looking healthy, there wasn't a massive influx of wannabies and SYR was a behemoth ...
MNS arrived with the hordes, steel industry got walloped, graphite prices were smashed, oversupply seemed rife, China was playing everyone the entire time, the bubble had burst and Frank Houllis was smart enough to realise (after the deals Stephen Hunt secured with the Chinese) that dragon offtakes were not what lenders wanted. Many others who chased the dragon were stagnating or evaporating.. Frank, blessed with knowledge and a pretty handy resource decided to do things differently ... simple as that, kudos, innovative.
So KNL probably never considered the need to innovate, they simply wanted to secure sales in traditional recarb, manufacturing and expandable markets and then scored spherical as a handy bonus.
