I didn't like the response either. Too many airy-fairy responses, open for too much speculation in my opinion. We should have received an announcement on funding by now, and the response to the query was definately not the definative answer that we were all after to be perfectly honsest. I get the feeling that they are tredding on thin ice, and biding as much time as possible. I feel bad news is coming.
