My understanding is that they used a 3rd party to look after sales tax in the US but are now moving away from that to handle their own sales tax as it’s become feasible (cheaper) to do so.
I think the CEO is paranoid to give any information about the business so as not to alert competitor or suppliers but I agree they could be more open and put this issue to bed.
