    Was this a game of hubris or desperation to fill a gap or as you say a FOMO game of burning a hole in the pocket? That is on the negative argument (or maybe positive depending on your point of view). The positive side would have been acquisition of an earnings accretive asset - maybe? But M&A transactions do not always deliver - integration and capital raising issues arise - the market often marks down these type of transactions (depending of course where we sit in the cycle - we are definitely not at the bottom of the gold cycle). I think shareholders dodged a bullet here. The bet is on gold going forward - gold bugs are positive on this but this was too big of a bite IMHO. So as you say what will these guys do next - because they have shown their cards - they will do something along the same lines? Acquire a smaller asset with potential maybe?
