I think what some newcomers are memeing on is that the patents don't mean much without the actually end product, which is not wrong. In saying that for me the bigger news is all the collaborations they are involved in, IBM, Lot Fourteen in Adelaide (Which google just set up office in as well), the defence sector, all this add up value to the patents.
Along with this they never lied it will be a long road ahead and they keep the market up to date with their testing and results. So far everything is moving on track. The $3 price was just memeflation though at this stage, it will come but in its due course.
