Dear @MarsC,
EPBC is a significant hurdle, one the company had not expected.
Their ASX announcement of 21-Oct-2016 mistakenly predicted that “KPT has been advised that its proposal is not a controlled action under national environmental legislation”.
Well, they were wrong and the Federal Government has declared their project a controlled action meaning they now need worry about the following species.
- Endangered Southern Right Whales in Commonwealth Marine Waters
- Endangered Kangaroo Island Echidnas
- Vulnerable Hooded Plover (eastern)
- Vulnerable Southern Brown Bandicoot (eastern)
I suspect this will be an expensive and lengthy process.
With regard to freight KPT will end up with monopoly pricing on freighting timber logs so can certainly charge themselves as much as they want !
But you could do that at any of the twelve other possible wharf sites they claim investigating that may not have the burden of EPBC environmental issues.
For just about any freight other than timber logs you would expect natural competition with the existing freight provider to occur leading to fair market pricing shared with the experienced and longstanding major company Sealink.
Sounds like that toll keeper won’t be doing much counting.
