As long as people need the minerals the world turns a blind eye to it. Chances are your mobile phone in your hand has conflict minerals in it sourced from the Congo but that didn't stop global companies buying the minerals and governments permitting it being imported and you (and me) from buying the mobile phone. As long as there is a need everyone conveniently forgets about where it came from.
