East China delegation visits Eastern Highlands - Post Courier

A delegation from east China’s Fujian province is in the Eastern Highlands province on a two-day visit.

The delegation led by the vice governor Chang Bin was received by the Eastern Highlands governor Simon Sia and the members of the provincial executive council and public
servants on Wednesday afternoon.

They arrived in the province on invitation by Mr Sia last month.

“Your visit will be a good opportunity for us to enhance exchanges and cooperation in agriculture and education and advance our friendly relationship between our two provinces,” the invitation read.

That relationship has begun with the setting up of Juncao Mushroom Technology project in Lufa district decades ago, which has been moved to North Goroka and have bought a bigger area of land to expand this project, according to the director professor Lin Ming Xing.

Juncao Upland Rice Technology has been integrated into the project along the way while Fujian people’s cooperation in the Eastern Highlands development aspirations has extended to other sectors.

These include:
– Students exchange program and Fujian scholarship to five Eastern Highlands students every year which will increase going forward;
– Infrastructures development that include Ramu 2 Hydro project, education complex whose construction is progressing, relocation for the building of information and communication centre from Goroka Secondary School to be housed in provincial administration head quarter;
– Business where four containers of green bean coffee has been exported to China starting this year; and
– Health and others.

Their accomplishment in infrastructure so far include Goroka main market, sealing of Fayantina road in Henganofi district to Lufa, rehabilitation of most of the Eastern Highlands section of the Highlands Highway, upgrading of one-lane bridges to two-bridges along the highway and others.

The provincial leaders held a meeting after their arrival where they were updated on the progress of their cooperation in those sectors.

The delegation then visited the China Yi Wu Construction operation site at Ketarabo, which has been instrumental in infrastructures development in Eastern Highlands and other provinces as well, Juncao Mushroom Technology at North Goroka and the education complex before they left Goroka on the next day.

Meanwhile, the delegation has invited the Eastern Highlands provincial government to return their visit.
