I think we may be getting ahead of ourselves a bit here, a special dividend is only one of the options that may occur and is only feasible if profits are consistently increasing and the company cannot identify any opportunities to use this available cash to grow the business profitably. I do take your point that a special dividend is most probably unlikely (and maybe pie in the sky thinking) as there will/should always be opportunities in their industry to use their capital to pursue growth opportunities.
