One could easily be forgiven when trying to comprehend the roller coaster cycle of Biotron's research, as seeing it more like a never ending running of Ground Hog Day.

In 2003 there came SARS and Biotron's discovery that the E protein is a viroporin, leading to, 'the finding opens a new path for the treatment of the disease.'

And now 20 years later the same story is being repeated with practically the same virus, with a 86.85% genomic similiarity. (Only bat coronavirus RaTG13 is closer to SARS-Cov-2 with 96.75% similiarity). And of course, we're researching again for a cure.

But taking this circular view is shortsighted when we dismiss the context.

There is a reason that the research on SARS came to an abrupt end; the disease caused by it was contained within 9 months, mainly because those who caught it were sympotomatic in about half the time of patients of Covid.

But that early research was not done in vain. Quite the contrary. We are benefiting from it greatly now. Biotron have build a viroporin platform technology that may prove to be the backbone of curing HIV and Covid, as well as other relevant viruses.
