The problem with those V8's was the difference in quality control from Holden to GM. The tolerances on the LS1 V8 on every part were significantly more lenient than what holden was producing homegrown. Get a piston, block and rings with all "slight" faults and watch the oil usage climb. The 5 litre commodore motor had very little of those issues the US ones did.
