Most of this data would have been available for a while- and early results weren't spectacular.
You'd have to expect management have known this was coming for a while.
If nothing else the trial highlights the variability of patients day-to-day so more continual assessment needs to be incorporated into the trial. In best case Trial was poorly designed for efficacy, or some other change in treatments were impacting results.
