Strategically, the announcement is a mistake IMHO.

1. All their staff in all their stores will start looking for new jobs
2. The media has reported that all the stores are at risk of closure, which will drive people away
3. Landlords with hold over leases will not be fixing anything that goes wrong in those stores.

They would have been much better advised to wait until they had the specific store closures decided and then announce.
