I've received a cheque from a company before so yep definitely a possibility. But I would assume it will only be used as a backup if they can't see a designated bank account. If you registered for automic, login and have a look at what personal details it displays for you with RAP, they have fields to enter your tax details, address, bank account, etc. if those details aren't pre-filled.
