I don't understand how a shorter provides liquidity. They sell borrowed shares, drive the price down.
They only provide liquidity when the price is starting to rise and they think they will be squeezed.
But that is too late, the image to confidence in a company is done by the shorters' earlier selling. This might be a year later.
