Subsequently, I take the opportunity to relate the story of John Annear, who some may remember played for the Eagles & Collingwood. The story goes. He flew back to Perth from Melbourne after a game and believed he hadn't run hard enough in the game earlier that day. Put his boots back on and ran home from the airport, I think it was around 8 km.

You can tell a person from his heroes. John Annear played for (my) Claremont in the WA when I was young, before the AFL. He was as tough/ determined as Leigh Matthews to Victorians.
