    The current value of a stock always includes the value of future cashflows. This is a fundamental concept

    So you are arguing for doubling-up on two components of cashflow (future growth and dividend) that are already factored into the price.

    Harbour have made an offer, and they have increased it without a third party intervening. So they absolutely have "bid against themselves". This is a oft-used and well understood term.
