"SFR are a multi billion $ company, can't compare to ALK, however I agree they need someone like this guy." - heard this argument million times mate.
But every time someone made this point they did not check the history of the company discussed when compared to ALK. They all had humble beginnings and grew to $1b+ companies.
Check SFR, EVN, RMS, GOR, GMD (yep that GMD), BGL, RRL etc... many of these started as even smaller than ALK or thereabouts and all managed to grow while ALK could not find m&a deal under the same MD.
SFR started as explorer.
