Given that city street lighting power consumption taking up as much as 40% of the city total power budget, smart and energy-efficient street lighting systems which, enable energy savings through automatic dimming strategies resulting in significant CO2 reductions, are becoming attractive as the world grapples with global warming. Taiwan is no exception having more than 1 million of these old and inefficient Sodium Vapor street lights which need to be upgraded. As Smart Street Lighting is an important part of a Smart City, Taiwanese governments and enterprises have been increasingly allocating more resources in developing Smart Cities to provide smart and efficient life-style experiences in major cities and townships including Taipei, Hsinchu and Kaohsiung. Providing full turnkey solutions and delivering impeccable services and support to key street light vendors and system integrators has become a top priority. Taiwanese industrial control solution distributor, ASYS, utilizing its established networks and deep experience in this market, is well positioned to engage in Smart Street Light projects. This is possible because gridComm Smart Street Lighting solution is future-proof solving the problems of compatibility communicating with different types of network. gridComm solutions, which leverage the street lighting powerline infrastructure, can communicate with street lights and IoT sensors using gridComm’s unique hybrid PLC-Wireless technology, which “Plug-and-Play” into the networks automatically and easily without any onsite configurations or tuning. IoT sensors monitoring weather, traffic, pollution, light, motion, flood, and seismic etc. can be integrated into these networks as and when they are needed. Besides providing network connectivity for wireless sensors, gridComm hybrid PLC-Wireless solution further increases communication reliability by providing a secondary redundant communication medium.
