REX's seven Boeing 737-800s have a median age of 14.4 years, while its 46 SAAB turboprops average out at a whopping 28.4 years.

They're satisfactorily maintained it would appear, but spare parts for the latter must be increasingly difficult to obtain. About nine of the SAABs are stabled out of us, so they may be able to be cannibalised as required if they're not going to fly again.

At some stage, REX will have to replace all these aircraft. This is a major expense. Is there a suitable, cost effective replacement for the turboprops? Overseas, I have often flown on ATR72s but these have a different seat capacity.

As with QAN, it's simple to make the P&L and balance sheet look 'good' if one neglects capital expenditure.
