Bringing the Future of Cardiovascular Health to Life

Meet Emerson C. Perin, MD, PhD, FACC. Dr. Perin is the Medical Director for The Texas Heart Institute and holds the John S. Dunn, Sr., Chair in Cardiology and Adult Stem Cell Research. Like many of our experts at The Texas Heart Institute, Dr. Perin is a world-renowned cardiologist. He is a pioneer in the field of adult stem-cell therapy for cardiovascular diseases and has been at the forefront of clinical regenerative medicine for more than two decades.

Meet Daniel. You may not be able to tell from this picture, but Daniel suffers from chronic heart failure (HF)—a life-threatening cardiac condition caused when the heart is weak and not pumping enough blood and delivering oxygen to the body.

Approximately 6.2 million Americans have heart failure with roughly half of them dying within 5 years of receiving their diagnosis. Heart Failure causes substantial disability, loss of productivity, poor quality of life and, eventually, death.

BUT, NOT FOR DANIEL.

When Daniel met Dr. Perin through his participation in a multi-center adult stem cell trial at The Texas Heart Institute, Daniel’s life changed for the better. His heart is now stronger which allows improved circulation of blood and oxygen. Because of this and other clinical trials at The Texas Heart Institute, patients like Daniel are able to regain their active lives.

For Daniel, this means enjoying snow tubing at 9600 feet altitude with his family on vacation in Colorado.
