Ok if for arguments sake they decided to stop before any overpressured zone and then pull a chicken run wireline operation....how would they know what depth to stop at if they had no idea of the presence of over pressure below 3400m?

Hindsight is a wonderful thing.

I don't think you fully understand that when you run into an overpressured zone with no offset well data or even regional basin data to warn of same there aren't always clear cut early warnings that you're doing so. By the time the well has told you that you're approaching balance you're faced with no choice but to weight up or take a kick.
