He still doesn't understand that the vast majority of driving is done locally, and that for the vast majority of people in Australia, the use of public EV charging stations is rarely a necessity.

He also doesn't understand that the transition to electrified mobility will actually be driven by pure economics, with govt intervention only serving to accelerate the inevitable.
There is also a key point, overlooked repeatedly, that the transition will take quite some time due largely to the capacity of manufacturers to actually supply enough vehicles to replace the ICE vehicle fleet (which of course extends to upstream supply chains), and therefore there is actually a lot of time for various required infrastructure - like public charging or high-density living solutions - to build out as required.
Only 2-3% of the global fleet is electrified, iirc, although there is no stopping the transition at this point.
Just look at the EV sales penetration trajectory.
Claiming it's a "cult" is simply delusional.
