I’m also a newbie, and I don’t understand the buy-back. I have 104 RIO shares held in an industry super fund in Pension mode, so not subject to CGT, I’m not working. There are no tax implications to consider as far as ATO or reducing my tax goes. I bought them through the Self Invest option (Pension Mode) within the industry super fund. The fund says I am eligible. What does this mean? I choose Elect and then I am selling them back to RIO at $9.44 or whatever it is, and somehow I end up with more money than had I held them because of franking credits, or something? I’m inclined to do nothing because I don’t understand it, so any help from a patient Hot Copper member would be greatly appreciated. It’s not advice I’m seeking, just knowledge. Thanks so much.
