Taking the broad view, it seems that RIO would like some of their shares back, for which they are prepared to pay $9.44 of their funds, approximately $53 of dividends (shareholders' funds?) and maybe $23 of franking crdits (ATO/shareholders' funds) depending on individual tax status ... certainly a great deal for RIO! Not so sure about the shareholders though ??? I must be in error - I thought there was some rule or convention that all shareholders must be treated equally? Here we have share sellers receiving a dividend while share holders are not...
