The desktop space in 3D printing is a very crowded market. These printers are limited in their applications and are targeted at hobbyists. The margins on a printer selling for sub $1000 are very small. You need scale and that's difficult to obtain in the hobbyist market. There is still opportunity for growth in this area but the big upside potential for 3D printing is in additive manufacturing "disrupting" subtractive manufacturing via metal 3D printing rather than plastics/polymers.
