This is only a half truth. Typical supply-demand mechanics don't apply to stock market.
Why?
Supply / demand typically assumes something is moving from the supply side to the demand side - Apple produces phones that they then sell to you. They never turn around and buy it back.
Trading shares, everyone is playing both sides of the equation. Everyone is both supply and demand at some point. And this allows people to play games and manipulate things.
